Here is What we Know About the Volkswagen ID.7 Concept

Volkswagen unveiled a new concept vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas called the ID.7. Here is what to know about this future electric sedan.

A sleek design

The Volkswagen ID.7 concept previews the electric sedan that will become the second electric Volkswagen model to be sold in Canada. This new vehicle features a sleek design that brings VW sedans into the modern era by combining elements from the recently departed Passat and the current Jetta with design cues seen on the ID.4 and the upcoming ID.BUZZ. Despite the exterior having only been shown wearing a unique electroluminescent paint scheme, most of the vehicle’s details are visible.

A technological interior

Like the ID.4 and the upcoming ID.BUZZ, the Volkswagen ID.7 concept features all of the latest technologies from VW and a number of improvements that have been made following customer feedback. For example, the ID.7 features illuminated sliders for the audio system and climate control system in order to make it easier to make adjustments at night. A larger 15-inch infotainment screen is also included along with a new augmented reality head-up display that can project information on the windshield such as directions from the navigation system in a more immersive way than before. Another innovation introduced by this concept is the digitally controlled air vents which are controlled through the infotainment system. This makes it possible for the system to remember each driver’s preference, and it makes the climate control system more effective due to better air distribution.

Up to 700 kilometres of range

Few technical details have yet been revealed, but we know that the ID.7 concept can drive up to 700 kilometres on a charge according to European WLTP testing methods. Official EPA numbers used in Canada are likely to be slightly lower, but the ID.7 should still have more range than almost any other electric vehicle on the market.

Available soon

Despite the vehicle shown at the CES only being a concept, the production version of the Volkswagen ID.7 should be revealed later this year and production should start before 2023, meaning that the first customers could receive their ID.7 in only about a year.
