Volkswagen offers two large SUVs that share their name and some of their style, but differ notably in terms of interior space. Here is how the interior space in the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is different.
Two or three rows of seats?
The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is the only Volkswagen SUV that comes standard with a third row of seats that allows it to transport up to seven passengers. Due to its generous passenger space, the Atlas can do so with ease and comfort. Since the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport doesn’t offer a third row of seats, it can only seat five people at a time, however, this makes it able to offer more legroom in the rear in order to make rear-seat passengers more comfortable.
More head and shoulder room
The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas uses its higher roofline to offer more headroom for both front and rear passengers than the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. With up to 1,049 millimetres of headroom in the front versus a maximum of 1,001 millimetres in the Atlas Cross Sport, the Atlas makes tall passengers more comfortable on longer trips. This is also true for the shoulder room in the rear seat of the Atlas, which is slightly more generous than in the Atlas Cross Sport.
What about luggage space?
The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport also differ in terms of cargo space, mostly due to the longer overall length of the Atlas and the sleeker roofline of the Atlas Cross Sport. This translates into a cargo area that can accommodate up to 1,572 litres behind the rear seat in the Atlas and 1,141 litres in the Atlas Cross Sport. In both models, this space can be expanded by folding the second row of seats, which opens up to 2,741 litres of loading area in the Atlas and 2,203 litres in the Atlas Cross Sport.
