2024 Volkswagen Atlas vs. 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: A Straightforward Comparison

2024 Volkswagen Atlas vs. 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: A Straightforward Comparison

Volkswagen Canada has introduced their 2024 models of the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport. Both SUVs come redesigned and refreshed, but how do they stack up against each other? Here’s a straightforward comparison for potential buyers.

Price:

- 2024 Volkswagen Atlas starts at $49,995.

- 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport starts slightly lower at $48,895.

Design and Interior:

Both the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport have seen significant interior upgrades. They boast:

- Premium materials throughout, with leatherette-trimmed soft-touch dash and center console.

- Front-row door trim that flows into the dash panel for an upscale look.

- Ambient lighting with 30 color choices and innovative backlit dash décor.

- Quilted leather seats with a diamond stitch pattern available in top-range models.

Engine & Performance:

Both models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering:

- 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

- Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

- Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system as standard.

This new engine offers better drivability and acceleration over a wider rev range and is expected to have improved fuel economy over its predecessors.

Comfort & Features:

Both models now come with:

- A heated steering wheel with shift paddles.

- Ventilated front seats.

- A height-adjustable passenger seat.

- Three-zone Climatronic automatic climate control.

Additionally, a new design for the center console incorporates a storage cubby.

Distinct Features:

The 2024 Atlas is a seven-seater and introduces the new Peak Edition trim. This trim has unique interior and exterior features like body cladding elements, unique wheels, all-terrain tires, blackout exterior details, and a distinct interior design.

The Atlas Cross Sport, on the other hand, doesn’t feature the third row of seating, making it distinct from its counterpart.

Trunk volume:

Short of the number of total passengers you will need to transport, trunk volume turns out to the biggest differentiator between the two SUVs. The Atlas Cross Sport has a maximum cargo volume of approximately 1,141 litres when all seats are up. With just the third-row folded in the Atlas, the cargo capacity is roughly 1,573 litres, and with all seats up, the cargo capacity is a decent 583 litres.

Trim Levels:

The Atlas offers four trim levels:

  1. Comfortline ($49,995)
  2. Peak Edition ($53,995) – with an option of a panoramic sunroof for an additional $1,500.
  3. Highline ($56,995) – with options for a 20” black wheel package and 2nd row Captain’s Chairs at $500 and $700 respectively.
  4. Execline R-Line ($59,995) – with an option for 2nd row Captain’s Chairs at $700.

The Atlas Cross Sport offers three trim levels:

  1. Comfortline ($48,895)
  2. Highline ($55,895)
  3. Execline R-Line ($58,895)

Each trim level builds on the features of the previous one, enhancing the luxury and comfort of the vehicle.

The choice between the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport boils down to personal preference. If you require a third row of seating or maximum trunk space, the Atlas is your go-to. If you prefer a slightly sportier, smaller version without the third row, the Cross Sport is for you. Either way, with the redesign and refresh for 2024, you’re getting a vehicle with significant upgrades and premium features.
